At Whiting Financial Services, we believe in backing people and teams who work hard, push boundaries, and support each other—values we saw in action with the HIBS 1st XV Rugby team this year.
It’s been a huge season for the boys, taking on the top teams in Wellington and even testing themselves against international competition in Japan. The Whiting Financial Services jersey was proudly worn by Henry Martin—HIBS’ first-ever dual Equestrian and Rugby sportsman—who, whether seen or unseen in the thick of the rucks, has shown grit, commitment, and the spirit of the game.
A Season Highlight: The Japan Tour
One of the most memorable parts of the season was the Japan tour, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the players to grow not only in their rugby skills but also in teamwork, resilience, and leadership. As described by halfback Will Ashton in his article "Unforgettable: Japan Tour Broadens Horizons for 1st XV Rugby Team", the experience brought the team closer and instilled lessons they’ll carry long after the final whistle.
WFSL sponsorship helped make this trip possible—and for that, the coaches, parents, and players are truly grateful.
Honouring the Seniors and Looking Ahead
This season marks the farewell of 17 Year 13 players who have given their all for the jersey. They leave behind a strong legacy for the younger players to build on.
The great news is that our jersey sponsorship continues into next year. That means fresh faces, new leadership, and the same determination to keep improving—both on and off the field.
More Than Just a Game
Rugby at HIBS is about more than competition—it’s about brotherhood, values, and shared experiences that shape young men for the future. We’re proud to stand alongside the team, not just for the season, but for the journey.
From everyone at Whiting Financial Services, congratulations on a fantastic year, and best of luck for the season ahead. We’ll be cheering you on every step of the way.
